Notebooks, glorious notebooks!

Kawaii! A spoof of the school exercise book
I haven’t spent a dime on notebooks in recent times (well, in the past five weeks at least) but I could not resist this one!
I was just minding my own business in a bookstore, when a colourful display of notebooks, gift-wrapping paper, cups and other lovely stationery caught my eye. I just meant to have a closer look, not really meaning to buy anything, but then … wham!
They were so cute! The designs! So cute! And I saw that it was printed with soy-based ink (environmentally friendly!) and it was made locally (buy local!) so how could I resist? I chose the one with the mock school exercise book cover, because of the nostalgia factor. (Till today, I still can’t resist stocking up on those soft-cover school exercise books.)
Seriously speaking, though, these hard-cover notebooks were made with good-quality cream-coloured paper (the shade of which I like), and it had a rubber-band binder (which every notebook should have). The A5 notebook cost me RM15.90, which I felt was reasonable, given the quality of the paper and the pleasing designs.
I would have loved to include a couple of visuals of their stuff, but their website isn’t ready yet. If you’re in KL and lurve all things stationery, check them out. Love, love, love!

Chirimen flowers shall end the craft draught

Chirimen flowers for milady's crowning glory
Ah, it’s been a while since I’ve had any time to feel crafty. Having two dogs and a cat takes up more hours in a day than I would have imagined. I’m a lot quicker at cooking for the dogs nowadays; I’ve learnt not to try to be too fancy with the ingredients. Luckily, the cat isn’t as picky as my princessy dogs — she eats anything I put in front of her!
In any case, I managed to attend a workshop last weekend to make these cute hair clips. The flowers are made with chirimen, a type of crinkled silk cloth usually used for making kimono. I really enjoyed the workshop, simply because it’s been so long since I’d sewed anything.
The overall design I’m personally not too crazy about — it’s a tad too kiddie for my liking — but it’s certainly given me ideas on how to go about making a hair clip I’d actually wear, or using the elements on other projects.
Making friends: cat in the dog house

Le Pomme - I peer at you
Today I introduced Le Pomme to the dogs’ container, for a sniffing test. She was very distracted by the crow that was cawing next door, so she didn’t really check it out too thoroughly. Tomorrow, we will do this again.
Hopefully cat and dogs can be friends. Slowly, we shall proceed.
This will be a menagerie if I’m not careful

Le Pomme, the cat (a photo by my lovely colleague, Juliet)
After many years of wanting a cat as a pet, I finally got my wish. Of course, I didn’t have two dogs then. Which made me wonder if I knew what I was getting myself into. Funnily enough, there were no objections from the matriarch (which I was surprised at). She has always been dead against animals in the house, because of the shedding. She seriously loves her squeaky-clean house and pet-hair-free environs. I think that having the dogs first softened her up, and paved the way for the cat. How lucky!
My colleagues told me about this stray cat near our office who was very friendly. After consulting with two friends who are cat owners, I decided to adopt her. She settled in our home very quickly — quicker than I thought was possible.
It took a week for me to decide on a name, but I finally settled on Le Pomme. She’s a hi-klass kat, you see. And her tummy is as round as an apple after she eats. So, next, I have to work on getting the dogs and cat to be friends. Wish me luck.
